We usually relate rustic with countryside and this is how the style emerged as the one with the elements of country living and rural life in general. It’s also characterized by simplicity and elements of nature, regardless if it’s expressed through the natural materials being used or applying natural colors. If you want to apply a touch of rustic to your home decor, here are five fabulous ideas to help you out.
Stepladder side table
This idea is perfect for a bedside table, but you can actually fit it into any room in the house, as a regular shelf. It’s a perfect way to decorate a corner, plus it’s quite handy to store all sorts of things. For starters, you’ll need a stepladder and that’ll be the base of this project. Place the ladder at the desired angle and attach it safely to the wall. You’ll also need boards cut into the size you want. Attach the boards to the steps by screwing underneath each step. This way the screws won’t show. If you prefer, you could just leave it like that and go for that rustic, natural look, but you can also paint the ladders and the boards in any color you want. Once you’re all done, it’s time to decorate. While it’s quite handy to have these shelves to store anything from magazines to your keys, make sure you add a couple of rustic items, such as this clock, to make this project really fabulous and a stylish piece of home decor.

Mason jar lanterns
Mason jars are simply amazing for DIY projects, as you can make all sorts of things with them. For this DIY project of making Mason jar lanterns, you’ll need wood boards, metal hooks, and mason jars. Put holes in the top of each Mason jar lid to create small openings for the twine. The length of the twine depends on the size of the jar and where you’ll be placing the hooks. Put the twine through the holes and create a double knot so that the knot stays inside the jar. Then place the candles into the jar. For bigger jars, you might want to add rocks below the candle or you might want to use larger candles. You could also go for smaller jars in which case you’ll only place the candle inside. Either way, make sure the materials inside the jar aren’t flammable. This is a perfect home decor for a hall, but you can also have them outdoors, on the porch or on the terrace.

Country basket
Not only is it a wonderful piece of decor, this basket is also super useful to have around your home. It’s perfect for both interior and exterior. You’ll need a peach basket, a round cork mat, jute twine, hot glue, wood screws, hardware cloth or wire, paint sticks, wire snips, and scissors. For some of these items, you might want to stop by your local hardware store, or you can find all of the materials online. You start by cutting the hardware cloth and rolling it into a tube shape. Attach the edges using the wire or jute twine. Glue the shape to the round cork mat. The size of the basket directly depends on the size of the mat and the hardware cloth used for the project. Then use the rest of materials to create support on the top and on two opposite sides. This will reinforce the basket and make it sturdier so that you can actually store things inside. To finish off the look, you could paint the wooden pieces; you could add a burlap bow or any other rustic decoration that will make the basket perfectly blend into the surrounding.
